Governor of the Bank of England dinner
“Dinner with the Governor of the Bank of England”, one of the South’s most high-profile events of 2012, was organised and hosted by the team at Cobb PR.
In October 2011, Chris Piper, Bank of England agent for central southern England asked us whether we had the resources to host a 500 strong dinner, with guests made up of the most prominent businessmen and women from the top companies in Sussex.
Having hosted successful Business Lunch Club events for the last five years, Cobb PR is no stranger to organising networking events and we happily took up the challenge.
The response from the local business community was fantastic, in only 10 days of invitations going out, every seat was taken.
Sir Mervyn King, Governor of the Bank of England is one of the world’s most influential financial policy makers. When he takes centre stage, financial markets and governments around the globe take notice.
The event received national television coverage via the BBC, within a matter of hours of Sir Mervyn speaking, as well as being featured in numerous broadsheets the following day.
Peter Field, Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex, who was a guest at the dinner said: “Thank you for a splendid evening at the Grand. The hospitality was superb and the Governor was most interesting – I gather his speech was also on the 10 O'Clock BBC News! Well done.”
