Last week saw the launch of yet another addition to the vast world of social media when our favourite micro-blogging site, Twitter, announced the launch of their new mobile video app called Vine.
The Vine app allows users to create and capture up to six seconds of videos which, when uploaded to either Twitter or Facebook, continues to play on loop like a GIF file. Vine has said that the short videos are supposed to capture imagination and offer an insight into something larger, providing only a snapshot of a user’s lifestyle.
It appears that Vine couldn’t have come at a better time with visual content continuing to dominate the social media spectrum. It’s quick, short and best of all it’s easy to use. Users don’t have to spend hours shooting and editing video content anymore, the amateur on-the-go look is what Vine is all about.
After its announcement it wasn’t long before brands started experimenting with Vine and many began sharing their content on Twitter. Urban outfitters were among the pioneers and described their first Vine clip as ‘the most important Vine you will ever see’, and it wasn’t long before Cadbury’s were posting videos of mouth watering treats.

Although Vine is owned by Twitter, users don’t need a Twitter account to begin using the app. However, currently the app is only available to download on the iPhone and other Apple products with Twitter working on an Android version.
Here at Cobb PR we were very excited by the launch of Vine and got thinking about how we could use it in our social media marketing. Here are just a few ideas we came up with:
Give your audience a sneak peek to promote an upcoming event
Film ‘behind the scenes’ and give them access to your world
Show people how to use something, give them a short product demo
Short & funny clips will showcase your company’s personality
Give tutorials and tips over a series of Vine clips
Brief company announcements from members of staff
And here is our first go
